Beyond Wonderland.
Its one of those concerts that envelopes your Facebook news feed and turns out to be all you hear about for weeks before, and weeks after.
Well, it isn’t without reason. I got the chance to go to Beyond Wonderland this year, and can say without hesitation that it is named properly. Being at this festival, on the beautiful, hilly grounds of the San Manuel Amphitheater (formerly Glen Helen Pavilion), you truly feel that you have entered a land that is BEYOND wonder.
The grounds featured really interesting, colorful installation art pieces, lantern-filled trees and entrancing entertainers. There were plenty of places to grab a cold beverage or relieve yourself of said beverage. At 4pm, People in colorful costumes flooded the gates, and the music began to blare.
Tutu-clad girls and top-hat-wearing men made their way across the fields to various stages, all of them giant and back-lit by an array of colorful, shifting lights. As the musicians traded spots throughout the night, the crowds grew steadily bigger, and the enthusiastic hype of the rave-goers grew steadily louder! The entire festival was buzzing with jumping, dancing, playful people, clearly enjoying every ‘drop’ and bump coming from the speakers surrounding them.
Eventually of course, it grew dark; however, Beyond Wonderland could not have been more alive. Everyone was in character, whether it was the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, or the Queen of Hearts, there was no avoiding the positive energy.
Crizzly, Steve Angello, Arty, W&W, David Guetta, Afrojack, Bassjackers, Dash Berlin, R3hab, and Chuckie were some of the favorites, to name ONLY a few.
The music was bumping until 2am, at which time everyone made their way home, looking fully satisfied, and fully exhuasted after a long day and night of going down the rabbit hole.
Needless to say, I, and the hundreds of others who enjoyed Beyond Wonderland 2013, will return next year for another round of musical bliss.
We hope to see you there
